Harmonized indices of consumer prices in August 2005

The HICP average for member countries of the European Economic Area (EU-countries, Iceland and Norway) was 118.1 points (1996=100) in August, 0.3% higher than in July. At the same time, the HICP for Iceland was 128.8 points, 0.2 % lower than in the previous month.

The 12-month rate of change of the HICP was 2.2% for the EEA and the Euro-zone while it was 0.4% for Iceland.

The highest inflation rates in the EEA in this twelve month period were 6.3% in Latvia, 4.3% in Luxembourg and 4.2% in Estonia. The lowest inflation rates were 0.4% in Iceland and 1.0% in Sweden and Finland.
