Structure of Earnings Survey 2006

According to the Structure of Earnings Survey 2006, conducted by Eurostat, earnings in Iceland calculated in Euro are in general high compared with other countries in the survey. However, when price levels are taken into account through PPP, purchasing power parities, earnings in Iceland are closer to mean earnings in the European Union.

Number of hours paid is high in Iceland in comparison to other countries. In addition, proportion of overtime hours to total hours is the highest in Iceland, both for men and women.

These results are based on the Structure of Earnings Survey for the year 2006 and can be found in a new issue of the Statistical Series within the category of Wages, income and labour market. The purpose of the survey is to establish comparable wage statistics for the European Union member states, Iceland, Norway and Turkey. A summary of the data can be found on Statistics Iceland website and the full data is presented on the Eurostat website.
