NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 15 MARCH 2018

The total catch of Icelandic vessels in February was 84,724 tonnes. Demersal catch was just over 37 thousand tonnes, where cod amounted to over 24 thousand tonnes, saithe over 4 thousand tonnes, and haddock nearly 4 thousand tonnes. Pelagic catch was 46.5 thousand tonnes in February where 36.5 thousand tonnes were capelin and nearly 10 thousand tonnes blue whiting.

In the 12 month period from March 2017 to February 2018 the total catch has increased by 276 thousand tonnes, or 28% compared with the same period a year earlier.
