Total labour costs have increased by 2.1% in the economic activity of Construction (F) in the 1st quarter 2007 compared to the previous quarter. During the same period total labour costs decreased by 1.7% in the economic activity of Wholesale and retail trade; repair (G), by 0.9% in Transport, storage and communication (I) and by 0.4% in Manufacturing (D).

Increases in total labour costs excluding bonuses range from 3.8% in the economic activity of Wholesale and retail trade; repair (G) to 5.4% in Transport, storage and communication (I) in the 1st quarter 2007 compared to the previous quarter. The index of total labour costs excluding bonuses does not include payments not paid in each pay period.

Collective agreements stipulate a general wage increase of 2.9% from the 1st January 2007. During the same time pay roll tax decreased by 0.45% to 5.34% and employer's contributions to employee's pension funds rose from 7% to 8%.

The Labour cost index measures, on quarterly basis, the development of labour costs per hour worked. The index is not adjusted for changes in working hours or labour structure.
