The population of Iceland at the end of the 3rd quarter 2015 was 331,310. The number of males was 166,590 and females 164,720. The population increased by 700 from the previous quarter. Inhabitants of the capital region were 212,820 and 118,490 lived outside the capital region.
A total of 1,130 children were born in the 3rd quarter and 530 persons died. Net migration was positive by 80 persons. Net migration of persons with Icelandic citizenship was negative by 640, but positive by 720 for foreign citizens. More females than males emigrated.
Denmark was the most popular destination for Icelandic citizens with 550 persons emigrating in the quarter. Of the 1,640 Icelandic citizens who emigrated, 1,290 went to Denmark, Norway or Sweden. The largest group of the 600 foreign citizens who emigrated went to Poland (130).
Immigrants with Icelandic citizenship came mostly from Denmark, Norway or Sweden, 730 out of 1,010, while Poland was the country of origin for most of the foreign immigrants, 370 out of 1,320. The United States came second with 80 immigrants. Foreign citizens were 25,630 by the end of the 3rd quarter 2015.
