In August 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 336,700 which is an increase of 17% compared with August 2014.
Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 92% of the total number of overnight stays in August and increased by 19% compared with August 2014. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders increased by 2%.
In the Capital region, the number of overnight stays was 187,600, which is a 19% increase compared with August 2014. Overnight stays in the South region were 56,000 in August 2015. Overseas residents with most overnight stays in Iceland in August were residents from the USA (66,700), Germany (61,450), and the UK (31,100).
In the last twelve months, from September 2014 until August 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 2,605,003 which is an increase of around 18% compared with the same period in the previous year.
Occupancy rate for bedrooms in hotels in August 2015 was 85%
In August the occupancy rate for bedrooms was highest in the capital region, around 88%. Please note that figures on occupancy rate have been updated for 2013-2015.
