In August 2014, overnight stays in hotels were 287,500 which is an 11% increase compared with August 2013. During the last twelve months overnight stays have increased by 13%.
Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 91% of the total number of overnight stays in August and increased by 12% compared with August 2013. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 4%.
In the Capital region, the number of overnight stays was 157,800, which is a 3% increase compared with August 2013. Overnight stays in the South region were 49,900 in August 2014, grew by 37% between years. Overseas residents with most overnight stays in Iceland in August were Germans (49,000), residents from USA (44,600) and UK residents (22,600).

In August the occupancy rate for bedrooms was highest in the Southwest, 94.1% and in the East, around 91.5%.
