In November 2014, overnight stays in hotels were 160,300 which is a 16% increase compared with November 2013. During the last twelve months overnight stays have increased by 13%.
Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 83% of the total number of overnight stays in November and increased by 24% compared with November 2013. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 10%.
In the Capital region, the number of overnight stays was 124,400, which is a 14% increase compared with November 2013. Overnight stays in the South region were 16,200 in November 2014. Overseas residents with most overnight stays in Iceland in November were residents from UK (46,400) USA residents (29,400), and Germans (6,800).
Occupancy rate for bedrooms in hotels in November 2014
In October the occupancy rate for bedrooms was highest in the Capital region, near 85% and in the Southwest, around 48%.
The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
