In September 2014, overnight stays in hotels were 183,600 which is a 16% increase compared with October 2013. During the last twelve months overnight stays have increased by 14%.
Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 82% of the total number of overnight stays in October and increased by 23% compared with October 2013. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 7%.
In the Capital region, the number of overnight stays was 128,800, which is a 15% increase compared with October 2013. Overnight stays in the South region were 24,500 in October 2014, grew by 40% between years. Overseas residents with most overnight stays in Iceland in October were residents from UK (43,900) USA residents (23,600), and Germans (9,300).

In October the occupancy rate for bedrooms was highest in the Capital region, 84.4% and in the Southwest, around 60,0%.
