The HICP average for member countries of the European Economic Area (EU-countries, Iceland and Norway) was 119.0 points (1996=100) in December, 0.3% higher than in November. At the same time, the HICP for Iceland was 131.3 points, 0.2% higher than in the previous month.

The 12-month rate of change of the HICP was 2.1% for the EEA, 2.2% for the Euro-zone while it was 1.0% for Iceland.

The highest inflation rates in the EEA in this twelve month period were 7.1% in Latvia, 3.9% in the Slovak Republic and 3.7% in Spain. The lowest inflation rates were 0.8% in Poland, 1.0% in Iceland and 1.1% in Finland.

The average index for the EEA in year 2005 was 117.8 points, 2.2% higher than the average in 2004. Similar changes were 2.0% in year 2004 and 2003 respectively.

For Iceland the average index in year 2005 was 129.9 points, 1.4% higher than the previous year. Similar changes were 2.3% in year 2004 and 1.4% in year 2003.
