This publication presents statistical information on several environmental factors with emphasis on pollutant emissions and comparisons with other countries. Total emissions of carbon dioxide and of sulphur dioxide has increased since year 1990, mostly because of increased emissions from industrial activities. Emissions of nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and non-methane volatile organic compounds decreased during this period. This is due mainly to an increased number of cars using catalytic converters, resulting in less traffic induced emissions.
