The total population 1 January 2019 was 356,991 and grew by 8,541 from the previous year, a 2.4% rise.
The building cost index compiled in the middle of March 2019 is 142.4 points (December 2009=100), unchanged from the previous month.
Earnings of farms engaged in fur farming as a main economic activity were negative in 2014-2017. There were 30 farms in 2017, 13 less than in 2013.
The total turnover of enterprises in activities that are subject to VAT, excluding the pharmaceutical industry, amounted to 4,536 billion ISK in 2018, which is an increase of 7.9% compared with 2017.
