Domestic meat production in 2023 was 30,076 tonnes, 1% less than in 2022. Poultry production was 9,663 tonnes, second largest ever, only the year 2017 was higher. Meat production in other areas decreased. Moreover, sales of domestic meat decreased by 2% while meat import increased significantly.
Never more beef import
Import of meat increased by 17% between years and was 4 tonnes. Beef import increased by 48% and has never been more, 1,344 tonnes. Poultry import increased by 11%, total amount was 2,011 tonnes. Pork import increased by 5%, was 1,591 tonnes, and sheep meat import was 20 tonnes.
Poultry import from Ukraine was 493 tonnes, 24% of total poultry import. Sheep meat export decreased by 43% between 2023 and 2022. Stock by end of year was 4,660 tonnes, 18% more than in 2022.
Record high egg production
Egg production increased after decline during the Covid-19 pandemic. Total production was record high, 4,790 tonnes, an increase by 11% between 2022 and 2023.
Milk production has not been larger since 2019, total amount was 155,975 tonnes, third largest ever. Meanwhile, wool production decreased by 8% compared with 2022 and was only 543 tonnes.
Thousand tonnes of carrots
Grain procuction is now separated by specimens, i.e. barley, oats, and wheat/rye, and oil seed harvest is published for the first time. Grain harvest was meager in 2023 due to cold spring and weather damage in autumn storms. Potato and swede harvest were similar as in previous years, while carrot production passed 1,000 tonnes for the first time.
Pepper production was the largest since 2014, 211 tonnes, and cucumber production was the largest ever, 2,096 tonnes. Cauliflower harvest was also among the largest, 123 tonnes.
Hay harvest will be published along with livestock data later in the year.
