Elections were held for the Althingi 30 November 2024. A total of 268,490 people were registered to vote, or 68.9% of the population. Of these, 215,395 voted, or 80.2% of voters. The voter turnout for women was 81.2%, for men 79.2%, and for non-binary/other 69.9%.
For the first time since Statistics Iceland began disseminating election reports, an analysis of voter turnout by education is now available for both 2021 and 2024. The results show a clear difference in voter turnout by education level. Voter turnout was highest among those with a university education, at 86.8% in 2024. The second highest voter turnout was among those with an upper secondary education (81.3%) and the lowest voter turnout was among those with primary education (71.1%). The same trend was seen for 2021, when the percentage of university graduates was 86.8%, the percentage of upper secondary education was 71.6% and the percentage of primary education was 80.9%.
