Managers, chairmen and members of Boards of Directors in Icelandic enterprises were 25.9% women at the end of 2014, which is an increase of 0.4 percentage points from last year. The proportion of women in Boards of Directors ranged from 21,3% to 22,3% between 1999 and 2006, whereas it has been increasing since 2007.
Following an increase in the proportion of women as board members in enterprises of 50 or more persons employed over the last few years, that percentage is now relatively unchanged between years, or 32.8% in 2015 compared with 33.2% in 2014. For comparison, it was 12.7% in 2007 and 9.5% in 1999. Recent legislation states that proportions of board members in medium and large enterprises should not be below 40% for either sex. Percentages of men vs. women as board members of smaller enterprises have shown little change over the last few years.
Proportion of women as managers and chairmen of the board in 2015 was 21.9% and 24.1%, respectively, in both cases a slight increase from 2014. Data on number of managers, chairmen and members of Board of Directors are presented by sex, by economic activity and by size of enterprises.
