There were 771 new registrations of private limited companies in the 1st quarter of 2017, thereof 242 in January, 257 in February, and 272 in March. New registrations increased by 8% in the 1st quarter of 2017, when compared with 712 new registrations in the 1st quarter of 2016. Looking at new registrations by sections of activity, the greatest number of new registrations was in Construction (142) and Real estate activities (131). When compared with the 1st quarter of 2016, the greatest increase in new registrations was from 77 to 142 in Construction (84%), whereas the greatest proportional decrease was from 26 to 10 in Agriculture, forestry and fishing (62%). New registrations increased by 11% over the last 12 months, from April 2016 to March 2017, compared to the prior 12 months. There were 2,714 new registrations during the period, compared with 2,430 in the previous 12 months.
There were 197 corporate insolvencies registered in the 1st quarter of 2017, thereof 71 in January, 67 in February and 59 in March. Corporate insolvencies decreased by 38% when compared with the 1st quarter of 2016, when they were 320. Looking at major sections of activity, there were 51 insolvencies in Construction, compared with 61 in the 1st quarter of 2016 (16% decrease), and 34 insolvencies in Wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, compared with 77 in the 1st quarter of 2016 (56% decrease). Corporate insolvencies increased by 33% over the last 12 months, from April 2016 to March 2017, compared to the prior 12 months. There were 907 corporate insolvencies during the period, compared with 683 in the previous 12 months.
