There were 269 new registrations of private limited companies in May 2016. New registrations increased by 15% over the last 12 months, from June 2015 to May 2016, compared to the prior 12 months. There were 2,558 new registrations during the period, compared with 2,224 in the previous 12 months. The greatest increase in new registrations was in Real estate activities, from 267 to 409, or a 53% increase from the previous 12 months. Also of note is an increase in registrations from 166 to 220 in Administrative and support service activities (33%), and an increase from 143 to 178 in Accommodation and food service activities (24%). Proportionately, the greatest decrease in new registrations during the period was 7% in Agriculture, forestry and fishing (from 100 to 93).

There were 114 corporate insolvencies registered in May 2016. Corporate insolvencies increased by 2% over the last 12 months, from June 2015 to May 2016, compared to the prior 12 months. There were 787 corporate insolvencies during the period, compared with 774 in the previous 12 months. The greatest proportional increase in insolvencies during the period was in Administrative and support service activities, where corporate insolvencies increased from 30 to 43 between periods (43%). The greatest proportional decrease of insolvencies was from 95 to 67 in Real estate activities (29%), and from 52 to 41 in Manufacturing (21%).
