In 2024, greenhouse gas emissions from Iceland's economy were 6,811 kilotons of CO₂ equivalent. This was 3.7% less than in 2023, but emissions from the economy increased significantly after the Cocid pandemic.
Emissions from Iceland's economy come mainly from transport activities (33.2%), manufacturing industries (29.6%) and agriculture and fisheries (19.2%). Emissions from households accounted for 7.8% of total economic emissions.
Emissions from driving were 823 kilotons of CO₂ in 2024, equivalent to 12.1% of total economic emissions. Household vehicle usage, which is also the main source of household emissions, amounted to 304 kilotons and represented 63.1% of total road transport emissions.
