In 2023, the government collected over 88.0 billion ISK in environment and resource taxes. These taxes were distributed as follows: energy taxes (39.7%), road and transport taxes (29.2%), pollution tax (18.7%), resource tax (0.38%), revenue through emission allowances in the ETS system (4.3%), and other CO₂-related taxes (7.7%). Households paid 54.7% of the total amount, or over 48.1 billion ISK, mainly in the form of road tax and energy tax.
Fishing fees imposed on fishing companies are not considered environmental taxes according to national accounting definitions. The fishing fees collected in 2023 amounted to over 10.1 billion ISK according to the State Financial Statement.
