Greenhouse gas emissions from the Icelandic economy and households was 6,403 kilotonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions in 2025 according to preliminary calculations by statistics Iceland. This is a 5.4% reduction from 2024, 363 kilotonnes.
Most reduction in emissions came from the economy sector C20 – Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products, where the emission was 60 kilotonnes lower in 2025 than the previous year.
The silicon manufacture plant at Bakki is in this economic sector, but this plant stopped operation mid-year 2025. Emission from the sector A03 – Fishing and aquaculture is also calculated to be lower by 60 kilotonnes between years.
Greenhouse gas emissions from households was unchanged between hears, but this sector lowered its emissions by 1.7% between 2023 and 2024
