According to preliminary figures, the export of services for the year 2012 was 379,134 million ISK but the import of services 346,982 million ISK. The services trade surplus was therefore 32,153 million ISK in 2012 but the surplus in 2011 was 41,598 million ISK at current exchange rates.

The surplus of transport was 74,191 million ISK and the surplus of travel was 7,969 in 2012. However, there was a deficit of other services than transport and travel of 50,007 million ISK in 2012.

Export of services for the fourth quarter of 2012, according to preliminary figures, was 83,579 million ISK and the import of services 90,416 million ISK. Therefore, the services trade deficit in the fourth quarter of 2012 was 6,836 million ISK but the deficit in the fourth quarter of 2011 was 4,800 million ISK at current exchange rates.

Transport was the largest category within export of services and the surplus of transport was 11,711 million ISK. Other services than transport and travel was the largest category within imports of services and the deficit of other services was 10,421 million ISK. The deficit of travel services was 8,126 million ISK.

Figures of external trade in services for 2012 by detailed classification and by countries will be published on 30 August 2013.
