Statistics Iceland has studied the Netherlands‘ high and rising share as a destination of goods exported from Iceland. The study concludes that in the majority of cases, the exporting firms do not know the final destination of the goods (mainly aluminium and aluminium products) they export to the Netherlands. However, in the case of marine products, the country of final destination is usually known.
The Icelandic export figures for the Netherlands do not fully reflect Dutch demand for Icelandic goods, due to the role played by the port of Rotterdam as export goods are often erroneously categorised as exports to the Netherlands.
The share of the Netherlands in total exports decreases therefore only by 6% or ISK 39,000 million.
