In 2012, export of services was 375,977 million ISK and the import of services 349,672 million ISK. Therefore, the services trade surplus for the year 2012 was 26,305 million ISK, was 39,046 million ISK in 2011 at current exchange rates.
Transportation was the largest category of exports as the year before, accounting for 177,132 million ISK or 47,1% of total exports of services. Travel were the second largest category of exports, 108 million ISK or 28,7% of total exports of services in 2012.
In 2012, the largest category of imports was also transportation, 105,853 million ISK or 30.3% of total imports of services. Next in line with transportation came other business services (the largest category operational leasing services), 28,2% of total imports and travel, 27,9% of total imports of services in 2012.
There was a surplus of 71,279 million ISK of transportation and 10,312 million ISK of travel, but there was a 49,987 million ISK deficit of other business services.
EU was the largest trading partner in 2012, both with regards to exports and imports of services. 54,3% of total exports of services were sold to EU and 63,6% of total imports of services were bought from EU. Therefor was a trade deficit with EU, 18,415 million ISK. The three largest trading countries in both exports and imports of services were USA, Denmark and Germany.
