Production of aquaculture products in Iceland in 2024 was nearly 54,800 tonnes, a 10% increase from 2023. The vast majority was Atlantic salmon, with 49,300 tonnes produced. Arctic char amounted to 4,800 tonnes, a 9% decrease, and other species accounted to less than 1,000 tonnes.

The export value of all aquaculture products increased by 17% between years, reaching 53.8 billion ISK in 2024, of which salmon products accounted for approximately 47.7 billion ISK.

Data on aquaculture production in Europe is available to the end of 2023. According to them, Norway has by far been the largest producer of salmon, with over 1.5 million tonnes, ten times more than the next country, Scotland (UK). The Faroe Islands and Iceland follow.

Iceland is the leading producer of Arctic char with around 5,248 tonnes. While rainbow trout farming has become minimal in Iceland, there has been steady production of rainbow trout in Italy, France, Spain, Denmark, and Finland in recent years.
