Statistics Iceland has released a new issue of Statistical Series  in the topical category of fisheries. This issue presents catch, value and processing of catch 2013.

The total catch of Icelandic fishing vessels in 2013 was 1363 thousand tonnes which is 86 thousand tonnes less than in 2012. The value of the catch amounted to 153 billion ISK and decreased by 4.1% from previous year, 2.2% increase at constant prices. The largest part of the catch was processed in the eastern part of the country, mainly pelagic fish. The highest regional share of the demersal catch, almost quarter of the quantity, was processed in the capital area, mainly in Reykjavík. The main processing method for cod was freezing in land-based factories. Total value of by-products amounted to 5 billion in 2013. Value of by-products is not included in the total value of catch. Europe is the most important market area for Icelandic marine products and in 2013 the export value for this category of products to Europe amounted to 80% of the export value.
