Just over 624 thousand tonnes of marine products were exported in 2024, which is approximately 60 thousand tonnes less than in 2023. This change is primarily due to reduced capelin catches.
Total export value decreased by 1.8% between 2023 and 2024, falling from nearly 353 billion ISK in 2023 to 347 billion ISK. In 2024, frozen marine products generated the highest export value at approximately 150 billion ISK, while fresh-chilled products accounted for nearly 94 billion ISK. Cod was the most valuable export species at 143 billion ISK.
In 2024, the largest quantity of marine products was exported to Norway, nearly 131 thousand tonnes valued at 36 billion ISK. Nearly 92 thousand tonnes were exported to the United Kingdom valued at 60 billion ISK.
