NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 24 SEPTEMBER 2024

The Icelandic export of fisheries products was 685 thousand tonnes in 2023 which is 57 thousand tonnes less than the year before. The export value for 2023 was 353 billion ISK but was 359 billion ISK in 2022.

Frozen seafood products were 44% of the export value, fresh products were 25% and fish meal/fish oil about 20%. For specific species the export value of frozen cod products was highest, 50 billion ISK while the value of fresh cod was 38 billion ISK.

The most quantity was exported to Norway, about 20% of the total exports, which represents 11% of the total export value. Great Britain received 13% of the exports which was 16% of the total export value.

The export production of fisheries products in 2023 was about 353 billion ISK, almost unchanged from the previous year. Calculated as fixed price the export production of fisheries products increased by 9% when compared with 2012.
