The total Icelandic catch in August 2024 was 80 thousand tonnes which is 31% less than in August last year. The Demerdal catch was 32 thousand tonnes and similar to the catch a year ago. Pelagic catch was 45 thousand tonnes which is 43% less than in August 2023.
In the fishing period from September 2023 to August 2024 the total catch was 1,021 thousand tonnes, 30% less than in the previous 12 month period. Demersal catch increased by 4% during this period while pelagic catch decreased by 44%, mainly as a result of no capelin catch in 2024.
