The total fish catch of Icelandic vessels in 2024 was 994 thousand tonnes, which is 28% less than in 2023. The pelagic catch was 545 thousand tonnes, 42% less than in the previous year due to no capelin being caught. Demersal catch was 421 thousand tonnes, 4% more than in 2023. Moreover, flatfish catch was 24 thousand tonnes and shellfish catch 3,700 tonnes.
The catch in December 2024 was 61 thousand tonnes, a 32% increase compared with December 2023. Demersal catch in the month was 29 thousand tonnes and pelagic catch was about 31 thousand tonnes.
