NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 15 MARCH 2021

The total catch of Icelandic vessels was just over 76 thousand tonnes in February 2021 which is 48% more than in February 2020. The pelagic catch was 28 thousand tonnes compared with 6,600 tonnes in February the year before. About 26 thousand tonnes of capelin was landed but no capelin was caught by Icelandic vessels in 2020.

In the 12 month perioud from March 2020 to February 2021 the total catch was just about one million tonnes which is similar to the same perioud one year earlier. Pelagic catch was 564 thousand tonnes and demersal catch was 474 thousand tonnes in the 12 month period.

The catch in February 2021, at fixed price, was 9.5% more than in February 2020.
