The total catch in January 2022 was 220 thousand tonnes of which capelin was 189 thousand tonnes. Cod catch was 21 thousand tonnes, 15% more than in January 2021.
The total fish catch of Icelandic vessels in 12 period from February to January 2022 was 1,3 billion tonnes and increased by 26% when compared to the catch during the 12 month period one year earlier. The main changes are due to capelin catch since no capelin was caught in the previous period.
The catch in January 2022 at fixed price is double that of January 2021. Due to lack of data concerning value of capelin, estimates refer to average capelin prices from first quarter of 2021.
Information about catch of fish which are published in this press release are preliminary figures. The data is gathered by the Directorate of Fisheries.
