NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 16 AUGUST 2021

The total catch of Icelandic vessels was 87 thousand tonnes in July 2021 which is 2% less than in July 2020. Demersal catch was 29 thousand tonnes, mostly cod or 18 thousand tonnes. Pelagic catch in July 2021 was 55.6 thousand tonnes, mostly mackerel or 48 thousand tonnes.

In the 12 month period from August 2020 to the end of July 2021 the total catch was just under 1.1 billion tonnes which is a 8% increase from the previous 12 months period. Pelagic catch was 562 thousand tonnes and demersal catch was 277 thousand tonnes.

In fixed prices the catch in July 2021 was 3.4% less than in July 2020. Fixed prices have also been updated for previous months.

Information about catch of fish which are published in this press release are preliminary figures. The data is gathered by the Directorate of Fisheries.
