The total landed catch in June 2026 amounted to just over 32 thousand tonnes, a decrease of 29% compared with June 2025. The decline was primarily due to a lower catch of pelagic species, as no blue whiting or mackerel were landed in June 2026, compared with more than 14 thousand tonnes in June 2025. Demersal catches amounted to just under 30 thousand tonnes in June, an increase of 7% compared with the same month in 2025.
During the 12 month period from July 2025 to June 2026, total landings exceeded 1,106 thousand tonnes, an increase of 13% compared with the corresponding period a year earlier. Catches of pelagic species increased by 30% over the period, with capelin accounting for a substantial share of that growth. In contrast, demersal catches declined by 6% between the two periods, while flatfish catches decreased by 9%.
