The total fish catch of Icelandic vessels in March was 255 thousand tonnes compared with roughly 145 thousand tonnes in March 2022. This increase is mainly due to ample capelin catch, which was nearly 209 thousand tonnes compared with just above 95 thousand tonnes in March last year. Demersal catch was nearly 43 thousand tonnes, a decrease by 11% whereof cod catch was roughly 24 thousand tonnes, 18% less than in March last year.
In the 12 month period from April 2022 to March 2023 the overall catch was 1,370 thousand tonnes which is 8% less than what was caught in the same period one year earlier.
Information about catch of fish which are published in this press release are preliminary figures. The data is gathered by the Directorate of Fisheries.
