NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 15 OCTOBER 2021

The total catch of Icelandic vessels was 107 thousand tonnes in September 2021 which is 10% less than in September 2020. Demersal catch was 32 thousand tonnes, mostly cod. Pelagic catch in September 2021 was 73 thousand tonnes, mostly herring, 56 thousand tonnes.

In the 12 month period from October 2020 to the end of September 2021 the total catch was just over 1 billion tonnes which is a 2% increase from the previous 12 months period. Pelagic catch was 531 thousand tonnes and demersal catch was 477 thousand tonnes.

In fixed prices the catch in September 2021 was 9.2% less than in September 2020.
