The value of catch at first sale in 2021 was about 162 billion ISK which is 9% higher than in 2020. The value of demersal catch was 117 billion ISK, the value of pelagic catch 34 billion ISK and the value of flatfish catch about 10 billion.
Cod remained the most valuable commodity worth 76 billion ISK. About 98% of the value of catch came from vessels with government regulated catch quota, while coastal summer fisheries yielded 2% of the total catch value. Nearly 77% of the total catch was sold directly to facilities, 12% was frozen at sea or put in containers for export and 8% was sold in Icelandic fish markets.
The value of catch from foreign vessels yielded yet another 7 billion ISK.
