The total catch of Icelandic vessels in 2017 was 1,177 thousand tonnes, 109 thousand tonnes more than in the previous year. The first sale value was 110 billion ISK which is 17.3% decrease from 2016.
Demersal catch was 426 thousand tonnes in 2017 which is 30 thousand tonnes less than for the previous year. The value of landed demersal species was just over 76 billion ISK and decresed by 17.7% from 2016.
Catch of pelagic species was 718 thousand tonnes which is an increase by 143 thousand tonnes from 2016. This was mostly due to an increase in capelin catch by roughly 89 thousand tonnes and blue whiting by 42 thousand tonnes. The first sale value of pelagic catch in 2017 was 23.8 billion ISK and decreased by 14.6% from previous year.
