The total catch of Icelandic vessels was nearly 50 thousand tonnes in December, an increase of 3.4% compared to December 2014. Significant increase was in demersal- and flatfish catch while pelagic catch decreased. Demersal catch was around 30 thousand tonnes and increased by more than 16%, of which 20 thousand tonnes was cod which is a 30% increase compared to December 2014. Pelagic catch was 17,500 tonnes and decreased by 15.6% compared to December 2014.
For the whole year 2015 the total catch has been 1,317 thousand tonnes which is 21.8% more than in the previous year. Pelagic catch increased by 35.3%, flatfish catch by 21.5% and demersal catch incresed by 2,7%
The December 2015 catch is 17.2% more in fixed prices than it was in December 2014.
