NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 15 MARCH 2016

The total catch of Icelandic vessels was nearly 89 thousand tonnes in February 2016 which is a decrease by 60% when compared to February 2015. Demersal catch increased by 19% while pelagic catch decreased by 78% from 182 thousand tonnes to 39 thousand tonnes, of which catch of capelin decreased by 111 thousand tonnes. The total catch decreased by 5% between March-February 2015-2016 and the same 12 month period one year earlier.

The value index for February has decreased by 17.7% since February 2015.
