The number of Icelandic fishing vessels has been gradually decreasing over the years and were 1,531 at the end of 2024. The number of smaller and undecked boats was 820 and has not changed much in recent years.
The number of trawlers and decked vessels has, however, decreased in the past 20 years. There are now 37 trawlers in Iceland compared with 70 in 2004. Moreover, the number of decked vessels is now 675 boats, having decreased by 194 since 2004.
