At the end of the year 2013 the total number of fishing vessels, registered at the Icelandic Maritime Administration, was 1,696. The number increased by six vessels from the previous year. The number of decked vessels was 783 and their combined size was 89,478 gross tonnages (GT). The number of decked vessels had increased by five items and their total size increased by 203 GT. The number of trawlers was 51 at the end of 2013 and their total size amounted to 60,161 GT. The number of trawlers decreased by five from previous year and their combined size decreased by 12,540 GT. The number of registered undecked vessels was 862 in 2013 and 4,170 GT. Undecked vessels increased by six in number from 2012 and their total size by 60 GT.

The average age of Icelandic fishing vessels was around 25 years and two months at the end of 2013. The average age of decked vessels was nearly 24 years, trawlers around 28 years and undecked vessels 26 years.
