The value of catch from Icelandic vessels in the year 2018 was nearly 126.3 billion ISK, an increase of 14.8% compared with 2017. Demersal catch value was 89 billion ISK, an increase of 16.9%. As usual, cod was the specimen with the most value, 55.8 billion ISK, an increase of 14.5% between years. Of other demersal species, haddock value increased by 33.2%, redfish by 15.5% and the value of saithe increased by 23.6%. Pelagic catch was 24.4 billion ISK, an increase of 2.6%. Flatfish value increased by 35.6% and was 10.2 billion ISK in 2018. Value of shellfish catch was 2.6 billion ISK compared with 2.4 billion in 2017.
Total value of catch in December 2018 was 7.1 billion ISK which is 4.4% less than in December 2017. The value of all specimen classes decreased, value of demersals was 2.3% less than in the previous year, flatfish was 14.4%, pelagics 13.1% and the value of shellfish was 24.2% less than in December 2017.
