In 2017 the total value of Icelandic catch was 110 billion ISK compared with nearly 133 billion in 2016. The total value has therefore decreased by 17.3%. At the same time the total catch in tonnes increased by 10%, from 1,067 thousand tonnes in 2016 to 1,177 thousand tonnes in 2017. The value of catch in December 2017 was 7.4 billion ISK compared with 6.6 billion in the previous year.
The value of demersal catch in 2017 was 76.2 billion ISK which is a decrease of 17.7% from the previous year. The value of pelagic catch was 23.8 billion ISK which is 14.6% less than in 2016. The value of capelin increased by 35.6% while the value of herring and blue whiting decreased. The value of flatfish and shellfish catch in Iceland also decreased significantly between years.
