The value of catch by Icelandic vessels in April was nearly 8.4 billion ISK which is about 26% less than in April 2016. However, the tonnage of catch in April was 5% more than in April 2016, 109 thousand tonnes. The higher tonnage in April in the previous year is mostly due to more blue whiting.
Value of demersal catch was 6.5 billion ISK which is a 22.6% decrease compared with April 2016. Value of cod decreased by 25.2%, and most other species decreased as well. Value of flatfish catch decreased by 34.9% and value of pelagic catch decreased by 29%.
Total value of catch in the 12 month period from May 2016 to April 2017 was 115 billion ISK, which amounts to 20.1% reduction in total value compared with the same period a year earlier.
