The total catch in the first quarter of 2024 was 218 thousand tonnes which is 58% less than in 2023. The main reason being that no fishing quotas for capelin were issued in the first quarter of this year. The value of catch in the first quarter was reduced by 35% compared to last year and was about 40 billion ISK total for the first three months of 2024.
The catch in April 2024 was about 155 thousand tonnes which is 23% increase from April 2023. The value of catch in April increased by 4% between years, went from 14.8 billion ISK to 15.5 billion ISK in 2024. The value of catch in the 12 month period from May 2023 to April 2024 was 176 billion ISK, which is 10% less than for the same period one year earlier.
