The value of catch from Icelandic fishing vessels in August was 14.4 billion ISK, 21.3% more than in August last year. Demersal catch value increased by 23.1% and the total value was 8.5 billion ISK. All major demersal species increased in value compared to August last year, cod by 10.8%, haddock by 37% and saithe by 72.9%. Value of pelagic catch was 46.3% more than in August 2018, or nearly 4.7 billion ISK whereas it was nearly 3.2 billion in 2018. The dominant pelagic specimen was mackerel, with value of 4.3 billion ISK. Value of flatfish was 20.3% less than in August 2018 or 1,077 millions.
Total value of catch in the 12 month period from September 2018 to August 2019 was 142.6 million ISK which is a 14% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.
