The total value of catch from Icelandic fishing vessels in May was just over 13.9 billion ISK, 20.2% more than in May 2018. Demersal catch value was 10.6 billion ISK, an increase of 32.5%. The value of cod was 6.6 billion ISK (an increase of 30%), value of saithe was nearly 1.2 billion ISK compared with 618 million in May 2018. Value of pelagic catch, where the dominant specimen was blue whiting, was nearly 1.8 billion ISK and decreased by 4.5% compared with May 2018. Value of flatfish was nearly 1.3 billion ISK, and shellfish catch was nearly 300 million.
Total value of catch in the 12 month period from June 2018 to May 2019 was nearly 136 billion ISK which is a 10.7% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.
