Value of catch in May was nearly 13.4 billion ISK, 5.4% more than in May 2014. Cod had the highest value, or nearly 4.8 billion ISK which is an increase of 2% compared with May last year. Value of saithe increased by 40% compared with same month in the previous year, but demersal catch as a whole was on level with last year‘s catch. Flatfish catch incresed by 49% in value, mainly because of increase in Greenland halibut catch and plaice. Of pelagic species blue whiting was dominant and its value increased by 16.6%. Shellfish catch decresed by 20% in value compared with May 2014.
In the twelve-month period from June 2014 to May 2015 the value of catch incresed by 7.5% compared with same period year earlier. Value of demersal catch incresed by 22.8% between periods, mostly due to more capelin and blue whiting catch. Value of cod incresed also by 11.9%.
