STATISTICS FISHERIES 06 FEBRUARY 2025

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the total marine catch of all countries was nearly 81 million tonnes in 2022, representing a slight decrease from the previous year. The most caught species were Peruvian anchovy, Alaska pollock, and shipjack tuna, while among the ten most caught species were herring, mackerel, and cod, which are well known species in Icelandic waters. The world's largest fishing nations in 2022 were China, Indonesia, and Peru, while Iceland ranked fourteenth.
