The population of Iceland at the end of the 3rd quarter 2019 was 362,860. The number of men was 186,220 and the number of women 176,640. The population increased by 2,470 from the previous quarter. Inhabitants of the capital region were 232,070 and 130,790 lived outside the capital region.

A total of 1,250 children were born in the 3rd quarter and 540 persons died. Net migration was 1,560 persons, whereof the net migration of persons with Icelandic citizenship was -210, and 1,770 for foreign citizens.

Denmark was the most popular destination for Icelandic citizens with 500 persons emigrating in the quarter. Of the 1,150 Icelandic citizens who emigrated, 880 went to Denmark, Norway or Sweden. The largest group of the 1,280 foreign citizens who emigrated went to Poland (370).

Immigrants of Icelandic citizenship came mostly from Denmark, Norway or Sweden, 670 out of 950, while Poland was the country of origin for most of the foreign immigrants, 790 out of 3,050. Lithuania came second with 250 immigrants. Foreign citizens were 48,640 (13.4%) by the end of the 3rd quarter 2019.
